i think your comparison would be better to skip the memories and instead the ai is the footprints on the floor where walking happened.
you can trace many different paths following those footprints, which is a single conversation thread with the ai. add in a dice roll to decide which direction to go whenever two paths meet, and youve got a pretty close approximation to an llm chatbot
