That line of thinking could apply to humans, no? Pain, and other feelings and emotions, can be viewed like a computer program: A is done and the results are B. You step on a lego, you feel pain. Someone waves to you, you feel happy. Someone slaps you, you get angry and hurt. What difference would it make if an advanced AI has the same programming as above?
