That makes no sense, humans uses eyes, aka cameras to drive around, so how the hell AI using cameras could not be safe as competent driver or even safer due to the fact that it can look 360 at all times without being distracted?
Biggest slow down in self driving is AI, not sensors, but actual AI, which requires better models which are trained on more data and to have better compute hardware, that's it. You should go and watch FSD v14.2 videos, how it behaves human like already, you could only imagine how it will behave when its at v20 with few iterations on processing unit.
Simply put, there is no logical reason why AI with Cameras could not perform better than most human drivers.
