hate is irrelevant, whether they are aware or not of what they're doing is irrelevant. They might be indiferent to us and only see us as an inconvenience for their "plan" whatever it is. I know where this quote is from, but we might be unalived by AI's that don't have a conscious mind, just plain indiference.
