no one is really stopping you from using an AI but that's not the point sam is making. it's more about art theft and artists loosing their clients by the minute. from your story you haven't lost anything, you're just not living up to your expectations. people I know in the art and animation community have grandchildren and they still keep learning despite making obvious mistakes sometimes.
the AI doesn't need direction but we, the humans do. if you're worried about your work not aligning with your progress then it's just like the things many artists deals with too, sacrifices. I sacrificed being a teacher to be an artist and an animator. if I were to use AI, I would train it using my work, my art not others'.
