I'm not defending it, but it's absolutely not gonna kill us all, because it's ultimately a long maths equation trying to convince people that it understands what it sees or is told. It can't even write cohesive JavaScript code without being told what it's doing wrong twenty times, what makes you think this is SkyNet we're looking at?
You're stupid enough to think a bunch of numbers can think, just because you saw it replicate human text without knowing what it's saying; but that doesn't mean your paranoia is factual. All sorts of generative AI are not real rational thought, they're reading patterns and trying to output a replica of them without any real knowledge of what is being created.
Software engineer here: it, in fact, *is* more computer bs. The maths equation reads more data and outputs words instead of numbers now, that's all that changed.
