Not to mention that writing even a few coherent new paragraphs would be completely impossible to do by surface level statistics alone and without something like "true understanding." That's why chatbots didn't work until now, because they didn't understand the context. Now they do. That doesn't mean they're sentient; understanding is just a compressed map that reproduces the territory, which is a thing that we can observe that the parameters of an LLM contain.
