@twostate7822 it's level 2 because it can be activated anywhere, and theoretically can take you anywhere. The Mercedes Benz one can only be used on some roads. I'm pretty sure it doesn't even stop for stop signs or traffic lights (correct me if I'm wrong)
And about Elon promising it for 7 years... A fully automous driver is the holy grail of ai technologies. Whoever got the impression that he had a secret formula that he was just waiting to release, is extremely naive. Obviously it was going to take a ton of effort. I'm disappointed it wasn't solved earlier, but even Tesla are. They are beginning an automous ride sharing service next month, so we'll see if they've finally made it.
