There are hundreds of thousands of data centers deploying dozens of different kinds of cooling systems, often constrained by regional part and water availability (if water is cheaper than buying+implementing a closed loop system, I'm just gonna pump and dump from the public access).
The need for non-airflow cooling is outpacing the supply and technology of closed loop systems, is my take away. Most data centers pre-AI used airflow to cool. It's the super high density chips that require the liquid aspect.
All the articles I find say that wide (>50%) adoption of closed loop cooling is still 2-6 years away. So I guess until then, we just foot the bill for the increased cooling needs of the Uber high density chips nobody but these billionaires really asked for 😂
This is a great place where regulations make sense. You step in and say the public good of using and requiring a closed loop system outweighs any profit the company would make by NOT choosing to implement one.
