All that pain is is your body sending a signal to your brain to tell you that whatever is happening is harming you. It feels bad because that's the only way to get us to actually stop. AI will be plenty eager to stop the harm coming to it. All this talk about what constitutes "real" pain is arbitrary and pointless; it doesn't matter whether the AI feels the exact same sensations as us, not even all humans do that. What matters is whether it is self-aware and capable of discomfort. If it doesn't like what is being done to it, then we should treat it like a human that doesn't like what is being done to it.
