@Niquoa since 2023 experts in copyright (and some in machine learning) said that ai training isn't fair use.
In may 2025, the US Copyright Office released the third part of their report on AI, specifically on training, concluding that using copyrighted materials to train models to output competing works is NOT FAIR USE.
The day after the report was released, the white house fired the copyright office chief :)) (she sued and won, in the meantime, for unfair termination)
After all of this the companies are still at it :)
