You're correct. That's because predictions are based on current experience and contemporary conditions. Neil Armstrong once said that at the time of the Apollo 11 landing, _nobody_ foresaw the appearance of digital watches. Yet digital watches appeared only a few years after his moon landing. Movies are a great example of how future predictions are rarely accurate, and are usually laughably wide of the mark. Think of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Here we are in 2025 and there are no moon bases, no orbital Hiltons, no Pan-Am space shuttles - and not even a Pan-Am anymore. Nobody can predict the future with any significant degree of accuracy, only, as you say, hit-or-miss generalizations, which are usually more miss than hit.
