Not really, tons of actual computer scientists explaining what we have now isn't close to being real AI but well written computer programs with a connection to the cloud. We are still pretty far out from Artificial Consciousness. We don't even understand organic consciousness yet and this is coming from someone with a psychology degree. Yet alone being able to build said consciousness artificially.
But sensationalist articles and marketing has led people into believing we are farther than we actually are with artificial consciousness
