I wouldn't say it's totally a con, the technology has its uses like how researchers used it to read ancient scrolls they couldn't open and you can use chatgpt to save time when you need to do a more complex internet search because it aggregates and synthesises the results (but you will still need to check the sources afterward), but that's niche usages and not something you build a whole economy around. For now generative AI is like an avocado slicers: it has it uses but unless you eat avocado every day you don't need it since it's just a worse knife in any other situation.The problem is that the AI crowd managed to convice a lot of people that you don't need knives anymore since their avocado slicers will replace them.
