This is nothing compared to the city of Boston. They spent $600k in civil asset forfeiture funds buying a stingray device that tracks all cell phones going through the city. Their justification is that they need a warrant or exigent circumstances to access the data. They also have cameras throughout the city, automatic plate readers, drone surveillance, and shotspotter gunshot location detection. All that information in the hands of a department that is not known for its integrity. All that approved by a shady city council that passed a transparency ordinance as if it was a heroic measure.
