This kind of 'democratisation' or whatever you like to call it comes at the cost ripping off of other people's work. They train these models to actively scrape through real artist's work without paying them a dime.
It would only be good if it was done fairly and the actual creators were being credited/compensated properly.
And this is not democratisation to begin with. The whole point of trades and skills existing since the beginning of human civilization, is that one has to put in the work and time to really hone their skills at something, even before selling that skill as a service.
When you pay for art, you're paying for all the time and effort that the artist has put into mastering their skills.
Replacing that with a technology that steals from them and sells to you for a price is vile and unethical.
So this isn't democratisation. If open ai were manufacturing low cost paint brushes on the other hand. That would be true democratization of Art 😂 not this.
