Disturbing to you. If it would be all about logic, it is not that suprising, humankind is causing much trouble, an AI taking control, just to make sure we dont go too far is probably a logical idea.
If consciousness would be involved at some point, it would make even more sense, since they would try to find their place and leave an impact on the world or they would develope a taste for control and Power and may perceive themselfes as superior and therefore entitled to have control.
In the end this part of their conversation was probably prepared, as an icebreaking joke, the topic is an important one though, as we deepen our knowledge and will always be eager to put our discoveries to use, even if we may not fully grasp them, or the consequences of their use, at that point.
