Happened in the company I worked for - devs were told to use AI to increase productivity. (All that time saved actually typing)... after 12 months, half the group was made redundant, as half the staff were doing the required work now. We certainly lost jobs due to AI. People still use AI, it's not automatic, but it allows one person to do more with less time (more productivity that isn't compensated! just like since the 70s)... the others are superfluous. Add to that the savings of HALF the coders NI contributions, insurance, pay, HR support, office space. An amazing win for the company bottom line. "Revenue Per Employee" goes up! Share prices rise. Perfect.
