If you were a 35 year old mechanic today and did the same process, would you be worried about losing your job? Or at least seriously thinking that you would relegated to implementing fixes that an A.I. determined? A service center doesn't need as many employees, so now more people competing for fewer jobs.
I'm a retired software engineer. I remember replacing some large pieces of code with simpler more elegant solutions. I used Chat Gpt, describing the desired inputs, outputs, and functionality. It put out the same solution I did, in seconds. If I was still working, I would be looking for a new line of work.
