If your system doesn't account for such common and expected variations, it's defective. The problem isn't physics, the problem is the system designers didn't bother to consider the difference between math (what a computer does) and human existence.
If you're using a sensor system that can't accurately map people's faces regardless of skin tone, your data will be garbage. We all know what happens when you feed garbage input to an algorithm - you get garbage out.
