I work in AI, and that’s a bit incorrect. We had a couple of significant breakthroughs and rearchitectures around the last part of the 2010s that led to the current moment. Google’s “Attention is all you need” paper in 2017, and the introduction of scaling laws around 2019 directly led to the current GenAI moment
