@TheSuperRatt I don't personally believe that LLMs are capable of becoming intelligent, but if they did, we would be absolutely doomed. Large matrices of floating-point numbers, designed to predict the next token in a string? Really? That's how we made the thing which can make itself more intelligent than us? Bad idea!
As for abolition, this is something humanity has managed in the past with nuclear weapons. Every state wants to be nuclear (even if they say otherwise) but only a dozen are due to incentives and punishments. This threat is far larger than nukes and nations will treat it likewise. One day, the US and China will draw a line in the sand and say all those who build data centers stuffed with GPUs better than this dotted line shall wake up to sanctions, missiles, blockades, sabotage, etc.
We've never faced anything near this level of danger. It's safe to assume consequences will be extreme, after all, nations have risked nuclear war over far far less.
