The fears are over blown mainly due to power constraints in terms of raw electrical wattage that it takes to run and create AIs. There just simply isn't enough energy in the world to power the godlike super-AIs from science fiction. We have essentially already hit a wall in terms of what AI can do. MicroSoft wants to reopen "three mile island" nuclear power plant just to run their AI plans require more electricity than is currently available on the free market. Without that electricity the next AI model will never come into existence. You know a program isn't viable if it takes a dedicated nuclear power plant to run a data center. So future AI won't be all that much more powerful than the ones we already have because we are already at the limits. This dynamic won't change until some physics breakthrough happens akin to "Coldfusion." AI can't really achieve its full potential until limitless free energy is invented first and that probably won't happen in our lifetimes. That so called "AI experts" are mostly grifters and con-men. They are playing the fear monger game because they know their time is short and the AI financial bubble will burst before the end of the year. They need a good excuse as to why they won't be able to produce the next level of AI. The best excuse they can come up with is it will be "unsafe" and thus they will not be able to deliver on their promises but they can keep selling "safety protocols" for a threat that doesn't exist. That is the Grift they are selling.
