Every single surveillance technique is in place at comparable extent in USA and EU. We don't enforce spying hardware components in smartphones and laptops, but our governments would love to do that. It cannot be pulled in a halfway sane democracy, though (yet).
The whole video is a disgrace to journalism.
Curious in particular is the part on facial recognition databases at 2:40. It is stated that 7000 feeds (cameras) generate 2.52 billion images "for just one province in China" - Fujian, which looks tiny on the map, but has a population of 40 million, US is 240 million.
Then the video continues: "To put that in context, that's three times bigger than ONE of the largest US government facial recognition databases which is run by Homeland Security".
Aha, and how many images are in ALL facial recognition databases of the US government *in total*?
