I support your enthusiasm, but it honestly might be better not to "drive behind Waymo cars" because Waymos have more accidents per mile involving getting rear-ended than human drivers do. Why is that? It's probably due to combination of factors which include: (1) Waymos don't exceed the speed limit, (2) Waymos sometimes yield to other drivers/pedestrians/etc when humans don't (as much), and, more importantly, (3) Waymos sometimes make sudden decelerations or full stops.
Yeah, that last one is the key, and I'd say it's the main reason not to follow behind Waymos unless you have to. Waymo executives have talked about the challenges of making sudden stops, and they make it sound like this is difficult problem that won't go away soon. For example, this might be the main reason that Waymos aren't using highways for paying customers yet, and only tentatively hope to do that in limited areas by the end of 2025.
