Thank you! That was my first thought as well. There was absolutely no substance behind the claims that AI will never become conscious, other than wishful thinking. Note that I'm not saying it will be conscious, I'm just not saying that it's impossible. We don't even properly understand consciousness yet, so logically we can't know if AI *in the future* (important distinction- we're not talking about the 2025 LLM version) will become conscious. So many people in the comment section invoking some hand-wavy mysticism when talking about consciousness only further proves my point.
