Finally someone else who doesn't have an immediate skyrocket of anger when they hear AI. Yeah people think that just because AI is used means that people will be fired (obviously that can still happen) this is Japan, not America where layoffs occur seemingly because management sneezed too loud. There's also the fact that anime is very unprofitable. People know and critise bad working conditions in the anime industry but most don't acknowledge that animation studios (including successful ones) barely break even in revenue, even for popular shows. So people critise the industry for not taking care of animators but won't allow said studios to use tech that may allow them to cut working hours? (Though this is the same community that also has no hesitation bullying and sending death threats to animators because a few frames looked wonky so I guess I shouldn't be surprised) To people who are saying that this is an insult to life or even the beginning of the death of anime itself clearly have never heard of a proof of concept or are willing to acknowledge that the first of something is never perfect. For all intents this looks VERY good for what it is, the cutting edge of a new technology just see how wonky the first photograph, video or CGI were also this isn't too bad in comparison. Yes, AI won't make high quality anime, but the majority of anime isn't that either, the majority of anime that comes out is mediocre level (though quality has massively increased in the last decade) and additionally not every anime needs groundbreaking animation or voice acting. So this will likely allow animators to finish such low work animes quicker and either take more time off or focus on better projects. So while it probably won't be a complete positive it will likely be better than people with cynical thinking are making it out to be. On a final note, this anime is being jointly made by KaKa creation and Frontier Works, the latter being the studio that made Clannad so they definitely know what they're doing, honestly I'm kinda surprised it took this long for AI to be used by the Japanese since they're typically at the frontier of automation but with my way this type of experiment was inevitable despite what certain individuals like Miyazaki feel or public opinion goes. #StoptheAIhate #AIisNotslop
