This shit is at least 20 years out from being perfected. There are so many variables just with the truck they have to account for that robots just can't handle. Right now about the only thing driverless trucks can accomplish is delivering freight from warehouse to warehouse on interstate highways. There's a whole bunch of trucking that still needs to get done between all of that.
My rule has always been you don't stop unless the road is closed or drifted completely shut. Chain up and keep moving. You figure it out pretty quick when you start going broke, because if you stop every time the roads get a little shitty YOU WILL GO BROKE.
My prediction is that this will never work efficiently until these trucks have their own designated roadways, like Musk's idea of an underground freight tunnel network.
The people who think this is going to completely take over in 10 years are completely delusional and they know NOTHING about the industry itself..
