Let's see. Maybe come off your high horse first. Any type of pogress in human history has been made by having a vision of a better future and then realizing that vision. being cold -> get clothes, or start a fire. Transport heavy things -> roll them on cilinders like tree trunks -> wheel -> car -> plane. The problem is not the invention itself, it is the human nature. And the part of the human nature that wants to weaponize the thing. Mr. Nobel created a dynamite. His vision was to help miners to dig into the mountains. Guess how that turned out... explosives, bombs, wars, nuclear weapons.
Secondly, a lot of the scientists you are fed up with do not have clairvoyance to see the future. I doubt Jobs foresaw how social media will create so much addictive brainrot that his visionary phone will be used as the gate to enable all that
Lastly.. many people have similar visions. So if it is not one person inventing it, it will be someone else. It is inevitable.
