I don't know how it's done large scale but the general idea is you want a quality dataset. So I'd imagine they're trying to avoid low quality, whether that's AI gen or not. However, I can train a small model (lora) on AI generated images just fine. It doesn't have any issues and does what I want. This is actually a typical workflow for making realistic fake AI social media influencers, for example.
