Wasn't the error that the AI misunderstood the question? Ignoring things like gravity, curvature, wind etc, it doesn't matter what distance they started apart unless the distance was less than one minute apart time wise. You just reverse from when they crash. You go back one minute or 1/60th of an hour. So the total relative speed is 30,000mph. Divide that by 60, you get 500 miles apart at one minute before impact. The AI was way off.
