...okay, addendum: I'm in the "AI is a tool" category, but also find most generative AI companies to be problematic in terms of the datasets they train their AI on (and in how they then charge for use of their AI, when usually part of the AI training datasets tends to be on stolen work of one kind or another). By and large, using an AI to help edit or come up with prompts doesn't bother me (to see done or to do, myself), but the way AI is often misused, misappropriated, and mis.... I don't have a third. But the way it's misused is just... it's bad and makes things harder for everyone (looking at the false AI flagging on original academic papers, as a direct consequence of checking for AI due to increased academic cheating with said AI). Tbh, sometimes I just like feeding a free AI something I wrote and asking it to tell me nice things about my writing. I don't think that's wrong. I do, however, think it's wrong that there are "writers" out there that wholesale claim they wrote something that is largely or wholly AI written. But some soul into your writing, man. And also AI companies gotta stop scraping AO3. Go scrape project Gutenberg, where all those books are legitimately in the public domain. Stay away from the things people are sharing, for free, on an archive website that makes no profit. Stop stealing work and then putting use of that work behind paywalls. That's so scuzzy.
