A few points Id like to make.
He is not Naive at all. In fact, he probably questions his decisions about the downsides of AI more than anyone else that is not in his position. The reason he HAS to be Optimistic, is because that is his job.
Your point about the internet is also not very strong, even though I completely agree. Every single invention throughout history has had its downsides. Some more than others. Would you prefer to instead never had the internet to be a thing? Instant communication gone? Instant access to information gone? Its just not practical.
In the pursuit of human advancement, there will always be big tradeoffs, some unseen and inevitable. But it’s something I am still willing to make. Thats how pioneers think
