I worked in a call center during my sabbatical before entering university, it was in the 20th century but already back then we were forbidden from having personal conversations and using the company's time and resources on frivolous pursuits like empathy. I got a severe warning once I defiled this policy and showed empathy instead of abruptly ending the call as was advised. Human beings are being empathic but human beings work in companies that are psychopathic and where empathy is a hindrance to profit making, the only goal of a company.
Most people are very ill equipped understanding AI when they demonstrate everyday that they fail at understand corporate personas who are already the ruling force in our world, having displaced human beings for decades!!!
