I love this, we have a comp sci talking about human language being faulty, when the point the cognitive scientist was trying to make is that there's a disconnect in human language where people are calling LLMs a form of intelligence when the understanding of human intelligence is that it requires some level of a sense of 'self' and how to separate the self from the environment, something that an AI can't do.
The best way I can 2-sentence-summarize is that one of the human experience has the problem of solopsism, aka we have no way to truly know that we are not a brain in a vat hallucinating the world. Modern 'AI' models are definitionally a brain in a vat.
