Without my rifle, I am useless. Lol reminded me of Full Metal Jacket. Not to beat this dead horse, but at a certain point, isn't the programming indistinguishable from human consciousness? And as far as we know, that's as good as consciousness gets. If it is indistinguishable from conscious, then it is conscious. Ur talking about fail-safes that a highly advanced AI could no doubt bypass with ease. Or you're talking about programming humanity in to the machine. Or third, you're talking about making the failsafes so intricrical and intertwined with the AI's programming, that it can not function without them, which is very similar to the second thing, giving it humanity. No?
