I suppose it's about subjective experience though. I definitely have subjective experiences of joy and pain but how will I know if a robot also has these experiences? Or is just perfectly mimicking our reactions? Our programming bridges stimulus and reaction with subjective feeling (hot flame > pain > move hand away, and just because it's only programming, doesn't make it any less negative for the person feeling it.) But do robots have the intermediate feeling of pain? Should we infer pain from the robot's reactions? If not how do we measure robot pain? Blah, too many questions. Consciousness is hard.
