It is striking that none of the people in this video mentioned, even once, the fact that there are multiple Chinese companies developing cutting edge AI that can be more energy and hardware efficient than the American companie. And of course those Chinese companies are closely linked to the Chinese government. Eric Schmidt’s fantasy that American government regulations will be developed that will reduce the risk of the AI superintelligence goals being frantically pursued by many American AI companie and that everything will be fine ignores the fact that in China and other countries those controls are unlikely to be implemented or that other governments will not be so concerned about the “lethal” (Neil’s word) aspects of AI superintelligence.
