I’m not trying to defend Tesla or Elon but Autopilot is not supposed to be used in the aspect of “letting the car drive itself”. I own a Tesla but the Autopilot feature is more like an advanced lane assist cruise control. Try activating your cruise control without assisting it and let me know how that works out for you.
That is why Tesla has FSD, which is a true self driving feature but regardless the display will literally tell you to keep your eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel at all times.
I do think though Autopilot is a bit misleading..
