I am not surprised a bit by this kind of practice. It is just taking the kind of 'wink wink' backroom discrimination and scaling it with AI. One important caveat, however, is that of political affiliation. A private employer can absolutely refuse to hire and/or fire someone based on political affiliation. It is not a protected class.
