The only thing I can defend Machine Learning stuff for is when they are used to solve problems that for us is either not worth it or that we can't solve! Such as what AlphaFold did for medical science. Though for entertainment, the only benefit I see for it is the crazy abstract stuff all models do when they "hallucinate"! Be it broken audio, writing, pictures or videos. I just wish that for cases like these, the most popular models were more ethical, and didn't use the works of unconsenting artists for training data. And I really wish people didn't think it would replace real people in most creative fields, since no matter how trained a model is, they will make mistakes. For indie devs I can understand the benefit, in being able to create sound effects and realistic pictures for little cost (favorite example is in DeltaV: Rings of Saturn, and its human portraits). But once again the lack of ethical models comes to haunt this argument, and possibly whatever mistakes they make, especially if one uses them for coding! Edit: I wonder how the major AI companies and people in support of them would react if AI like in Deus Ex was made? In summary, the Helios AI character in the game has gained sentience, and to stop terrorism by its programming, it has the idea that if it could take over the US government, it could effectively change it to best suit everyone in it, thus eliminating the need for terrorism and war. It would likely be very VERY bad for large companies, whose power it would likely lessen so that they cannot abuse their workers and market dominance to drown out competition. Though since synthetic Molecular Assemblers exist in that universe, the era of economics/trade/whatever would likely already be near the end, since everything could be made by anyone from nothing (similar to Star Trek's universe).
