AI is too new to be advanced enough to be even close to consciousness, but that doesn't mean to say it won't happen. We've still got AGI and ASI to come, and they're more likely to develop consciousness. Currently, even if we knew how to make an AGI, the cost of building it would be enough to bankrupt a trillionaire. The amount of power and memory storage alone would make it impractical to say the very least. But technology is advancing fast and that pace will increase to a dizzying level with the help of AI.
