I think the Google person unknowingly identified the problems as to why AI is heading towards a wall. Regarding the issue of training and everyday use, that has to start from school. Because when you’re in the workplace, people in certain sectors still need to continue to learn non-AI subjects and, if they can’t see the relevance of AI, they aren’t going to choose to learn it. So what Google wants, they’re not going to see for another decade. The face that AI is loved by the tech industry and the most endearing point about it is that it can write words for you is really telling. Because in creative industries, there are people who know how to write! If you’re really interested in a subject, you know how to write it and write it well. I suspect the tech industry loves it because it is full of people who do not possess the skill of creative writing, but instead of learning it, they build an industry that steals copyrighted material to write it for them. For as long as AI is built and promoted as a largely B2C tool, its growth will be limited. I’ve used AI chat bots and most of the time, they are useless. I end up asking to talk to a person, because the AI cannot deal with the person. The fact AI has to tell people to how to write prompts in order to get the right answers is ironic; that requires learning how to write concisely and clearly - if people know how to do that, do they need AI to help them write concisely and clearly? Personally, I use AI to ask questions when I’m studying Spanish, although anything I ask it, I will use as a starter to look up the same answer elsewhere to verify it. It hasn’t been as impactful on my work. Unfortunately, for as long as AI is dominated by the tech industry and built to meet its lack of creative skills, it will always be a plaything for that industry but will be a very small tool elsewhere.
