As a recent student, I can say that AI helps, but it is also detrimental to students. There are many ways that it helps, including the fact that it shows students step-by-step solutions to most problems, which they can then use to understand the process and apply that knowledge to similar problems in the future. AI also breaks topics down in ways that lectures or labs might not, helping students better understand difficult material.
However, AI can also be detrimental because many students use it to complete their homework without actually learning anything. It gives them the answers, but not the understanding. Students like myself, though, use AI as a learning tool. I take the explanations, compare them to my textbook, and connect them to what I’m learning in class so I can actually comprehend the material instead of just copying answers. AI can be powerful, but it depends on how students choose to use it.
