Same people telling you AI will never do this or that told you 3 or 4 years ago it would never be the worlds best chess player, go player, solve protein folding, be the best polyglot, generate images on par with the best artists, create music and singing vocals on par with todays popular music, make moving pictures(videos), code, etc. They will tell you they are "only" doing next token word prediction but fail to mention we do not even know what they actually are doing or how. For all we know humans are nothing more than biological next word predictors based on pattern recognition. I mean we have no universal definition of what consciousness is or how it even works. They will not be able to explain to you how the models combine ideas from its training into new novel ideas that end up working even though no such solution is in the training set. I could go on and on but most importantly, everything they currently do at the level they do it at today is the worst it will ever be.
