A lot of my personal use of AI is local image generation so it's not really dependent on hosted models. Hobbyists are going to keep pushing the models forward. I'm not an artist so I won't really put my hat in with them but I used to enjoy drawing as a child. As an adult I have a motor disorder that makes drawing in the style I used to enjoy impossible so AI has been a fun way to express that again. Especially through tools like krita AI that allow me to auto complete my now scribbled lines into what I actually intended.
I think AI is just going to become another tool in the future. Not for full image generation where you write a prompt and you're done. But something that assists work in one way or another.
