There isnt a shortage of truckdrivers or any other profession. Its a wage issue. THAT is the issue. They drove the wages down by hiring illegals/ unqualified people that they pay 1/100th the salary they would pay a qualified person. Then they can go " we cant get decent people, look at the mistakes blah blah blah" so then they come up with AI. For example tesla/spacex or just X. A progammer, that has the credentials and is living and working in the US, a US citizen or a greencard holder gets a salary between 150-250k a year. Now get an illegal and that drops to only 25k-50k. ( or even less.. slave labor is still a thing) Or you can go the semi legal way by using H1B visas where you pay between 55-90k max for the same position. yes the 2 latter ones will have a shitton of mistakes.
People really are under the misguided idea that if companies are forced to hire locals that would mean higher wages.. no it wont. meanwhile look at the corporate profits. THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN HIGHER!
