Actors and writers should have never worked in streaming. All the stories been streamed the writers wrote; and made these streaming companies rich, and put Hollywood back in the old Studio system days. When we all worked for a small salary with no residuals of course things were cheaper. You could buy a house in Beverly Hills for 5,000. Still Jimmy Stewart sued the studio to get residuals and the actors and writers destroyed the Studio system. Now we are right back to the old Studio days by working for streamers. You have shown the companies that you don't need to be paid. You can afford to write and act in streaming. Anyone can come to Hollywood and flash some money and writers and actors flock to them and are at their beck and call. They sold their soul and now they want it back, and the streamers are not budging, but laying off talent.
Now the actors and writers will be forced to get their own streaming companies. Because streaming only benefits the owner and makes the owner wealthy not the talent and staff workers. They will get AI and by pass hiring writers and actors all together. AI can generate their own voices, and they already have enough voices in the data base. They don't need a star or known actor.
I am an author/Filmmaker/Actress/Director/Producer/Screenwriter, I feel bad I had two shorts streaming, but at the time I wasn't a professional. I was in film school and did it for fame. When I graduated and became a professional I quit. My projects will never be streamed again. Unless it is a whole lot of money upfront like million. I can make money on Youtube and Vimeo for years to come. When I seen all the professionals running to work on streaming.
I knew they were doomed to not get residuals. There mere fact that they are forced to strike shows that the industry doesn't wish to pay them equal pay. That is, so sad and they will replace them with AI.
That way they won't have to pay anything it is who gets what they want first, and they got what they wanted since 2008; and gained massive wealth with the streaming content writers wrote and the actors acted in for their streaming service.
Even if the writers give in they won't be able to pay their bills and sustain in the industry. It is so sad. Unless they only work on Network TV and Studio Films. Yet they are cutting their hours and the writer's room down and laying them off. Because they lost, so much money in streaming competing with Netflix who is selling $2 DVD rentals, Amazon and Apple TV. They all can afford to lose they have money coming in every day from their customers. What is good for the goose is not good for the gander we used to say.
Hollywood is not in a position to compete with Netflix or Amazon, Apple TV, and should have stayed in their lane, along with the union actors and writers. If they weren't stating residual payments upfront in the contract. They should have not done the job. What is done is done. California is equal and at will employment and employer. They can fire you for whatever reason they want without notice. Good Luck!
