This feels like a much more extreme version of when you find several proofreading mistakes in the front page story of a major newspaper… Aren’t there like… Entire groups of people hired to make sure your references connect to something real?
Like, a standard freelancing content writer would be fired without further explanation if they made a reference to an article or a case that didn’t exist, and were caught. The fact that lawyers aren’t checking their own work, especially when working with AI, is wild!
