Words cant express how happy I would be if most of my work could be performed by AI. You would think mechanical engineers who take care of production of designs from other companies have it all high tech.. Hell nah dude, the company runs on an ancient ERP system (yes it got updates, but in essence, its still just a fancy excel with a whole bunch of stuff). Anything I wanna make, I have to take the drawings, verify every dimention (sometimes assemblies with thousands of items), manually impuz every damn letter to the predetermined boxes because the system isnt flexible at all, if I find any problems, got to contact the customer -> days lost waiting), meanwhile I get 20 calls in 4 hours about ongoing projects ur pending RFQs. Nobody in my region is willing to do this job - we are payed very well but still nobody wants to do it, all companies in my area are understaffed in this department - nobody leaves because they literally get payed whatever they ask because without them the company flops in hundereds of thousands of euros. I wake up every day and wish, please somebody, bring us 3 more people to our team so we can work only 10 hours a day instead of 14 and acutally have energy to exist outside of work. There used to be giant compexes where I live, we used to make our own steel, make in house designed presses for huge tires for big trucks and machines.... now we do just subcontractor work, as many similar companies - a very time consuming concept - every item that comes or is inqured is new - somebody has to calculate the price, get quotes from suppliers. Then they have to imput it into the system, item by item, letter by letter, number by number. Yes we searched for other ERPs, but none are as complex as we have and lack the ability to solve some situations wr often get... so yeah, Send me one clanker or send me 10, I have a job for all of them. Qualified personal died out, but yall still need planes, bridges, oilrigs, mining and construction tech, aerospace stuff... thats not just a few sheets of metal and a few screws... its in millions. Thousands of companies come together just to make a factory for planes. I couldnt care less If I get replaces. I like manual work more, and have my own manual labour +coding busineses which AI will never take over.
